Our history
A Flor da Selva, Lda. was founded in 1950 by Manuel Alves Monteiro, born in Paderne, Melgaço, father of the current owners, Vasco Faria Monteiro and Jorge Faria Monteiro, currently managing partners.
Manuel Alves Monteiro, the eldest of 8 brothers and sisters, in a family that would later become linked to coffee, moved to Lisbon at the age of 13, after finishing primary school.
It was his maternal uncle Manuel Alves San Payo – a renowned photographer, at the time the regime's official photographer, who welcomed him to the capital in 1937 – who had created this desire for him to head to Lisbon.
